Thrive F.A.Qs
I want my dog to have clean teeth, don't they need crunchy kibble to remove plaque?
Although chewing can remove small amount of plaque from your dog's teeth true dental health comes
from the inside out. Supporting your dogs immune system and avoid unnecessary sugars is more
important to keeping their teeth neat. We have found in feeding our dogs
Thrive that their teeth are
beautiful white and only have small amount of tartar. They also have no gum inflamation. If your canine's
teeth have been neglected, it is still important to have them professionally cleaned by your veterinarian
as some teeth may need to be pulled. After a dental is the perfect time to start feeding your dog
Thrive.
It is soft enough to be gentle on a mouth right after cleanings. Buddy Gourmet also offers the best
products for home dental care, tooth wipes and gel, heavy duty dual side tooth brushes and safe
natural paste.

My dog is free fed, can Thrive sit in his bowl all day?
Thrive is a wet food that needs to be refrigerated or frozen until it is time to eat. Once your dog is
accustom to eating Thrive, it will be devoured once you hand over your pup's dish. We recommend
feeding two meals a day to help stabilize your dogs blood sugar. Different from free feeding, set meals
is our preference for your dogs health. You will have better knowledge of the amount your pet
consumes and you will know if your dog is not eating and may need to see the vet. It is also helpful
when you dog needs medication that may or may not need to be taken with a meal. Thrive should be
handle the same as perishable food you intend to consume.

My dog has allergies, can he eat Thrive?
Thrive is a truly hypo-allergenic food. It is free from preservatives, dyes, by-products, corn, wheat and
soy. Thrive is an excellent choice for those who have been informed by their vet that their dog has food
allergies, but has not under gone testing for specific allergens. If you have a list of your dogs known
allergens please compare it to our ingredient list. In the rare cases a dog is allergic to one of our
ingredients please visit our specialty diet page for more information. We have chosen turkey as our
source of meat protein for Thrive because it an excellent source of nutrition and generally well tolerated.
We save other meats such as rabbit, fish, buffalo and venison from the mix for dogs that have allergies
of intolerance to poultry, beef and pork. We want your dog to have diet choices when they need them
most.

My kibble has 30% protein, will he get enough protein eating Thrive?
Thrive is 9.2% protein, but not just any protein. The sources of Thrive's protein are completely
digestible. There are not hooves, heads or other "filler" hidden in commercial foods. You dog is able to
consume, absorb and put the protein to use as energy. We will be unveiling a high protein diet the
summer of 2010 for working dogs and those with very high metabolisms.

My dog is diabetic, is Thrive an okay diet for him?

We have seen success in dogs with diabetes mellitus ("Sugar Diabetes") who are both controlled
with diet only and controlled with insulin. Thrive is a balanced diet providing digestible and usable
sources of protein and carbohydrates.

How long does Thrive last in the fridge/freezer?

Thrive is a preservative free wet food. It lasts one week in the refrigerator and our vacuum sealed
bricks are freezer safe unopened for 2 years. Our local customers freezing food in lid-top containers
should thaw and use food within 3 months.

My dog is on special food for kidney/bladder/urinary problems, how does Thrive compare?
Kidney, bladder and urinary problems can be caused by many different conditions and may or may
not be connected. Thrive is an acceptable diet for many dogs with bladder and urinary tract issues,
however dogs with true kidney failure or damage need a diet designed to provide them with a protein
source that can be processed while putting minimal strain on their kidneys. A diet also low in
phosphorus and without added salt is also important to dogs with kidney problems. Buddy Gourmet's
Kidney Care is best option for those dogs. Click HERE to read more.

My dog needs high fiber, can he eat Thrive?

Original Thrive is not a high fiber food. We have additions to our complete diet for dogs that require
more fiber. Green beans and natural pumpkin create the increase in fiber for "Thrive High Fiber". This
diet is still in the test marketing phase, but is available to the public.

I have started feeding Thrive and my dog acts like he is still hungry after he has a meal,
should I feed him more?

When we are helping you to determine the amount your dog needs to be eating, we take into
consideration your dogs age, body condition (underweight, thin, ideal, overweight, obese) and activity
level. It is best to divide your dogs daily portion into two meals to help them maintain a stable blood
sugar or you can provide them a healthy snack at the opposite time of day at which he is fed. Chances
are begging and whining behavior are performed because he thinks he has you tricked into giving him
something really good. Little does he know you enjoy the benefits also! You should only consider
increasing the amount you feed your dog if they are loosing weight beyond their ideal weight. Dogs on
a weight loss plan using Thrive should have their portion evaluated every 6 weeks, especially if you are
able to increase their activity level as they return to a healthy weight. Your dog is welcome to visit the
boutique for a weight analysis. Even a few extra pounds can shave years off of your dogs life. For our
remote clients, please phone us to set up a virtual consultation.

My dog used to drink his bowl dry, now that he eats Thrive he hardly touches it, is he okay?

Feeding your dog a natural, minimally processed wet food is much different than a commercial diet.
The salts, sugars and preservatives in many dog foods cause excessive thirst and water consumption.
Thrive is a naturally hydrating food. Whole foods (meats, vegetables, etc.) contain a fair amount of
moistures and we use pure water to cook our rice. It is natural for animals to derive the majority of their
needed water from their food source. The quality of our food and it's easy digestibility along with the
fact that it is free of added salt and chemicals can cause your dog to decrease in the amount of water
he needs to drink from a bowl. You should still make clean, fresh water available at all times and seek
veterinary advise when your pet behaves out of the ordinary.
